Images from the capsule you swallowed this morning are being transmitted to the square recording box carried in the shoulder bag. The recorder has a blue flashing light at the top which should remain blue and flashing throughout the day. If there are any changes in the colour of the light, or if you have any concerns about the equipment please contact the Gastroenterology Department at The Royal Liverpool Hospital on Tel: 0151 706 2726.Text Phone Number: 18001 0151 706 2726
Only sip clear fluids from the time you have swallowed the capsule. You may restart your normal diet and fluid intake four hours after swallowing the capsule.
If you take insulin, please take this as instructed by your diabetes nurse.
- If you normally monitor your blood sugar, please check it every two hours.
- If you feel dizzy, sweaty or irritable (signs of low blood glucose) take two to three teaspoons of sugar, or six glucose tablets, or one glass of Lucozade.
- You should feel better almost immediately, if not repeat the above treatment. If symptoms persist, contact your GP or your specialist community diabetes team.
You can remove the recording equipment just before you go to bed. Please keep the equipment in a safe place with the belt lying flat. Do not bend the belt as it may break. You can return the recorder and recorder belt to the Diagnostic Hub in Broadgreen Hospital (unless you have been given different instructions by the health professional that saw you when you attended the department).
The capsule will pass through your gastrointestinal tract in the next few days. You are unlikely to notice this. In case you do see the capsule, you do not need to retrieve the capsule but simply flush it away.
We advise that if you get abdominal (tummy) pain which lasts more than 30 minutes, bloating or vomiting, then use the contact details at the end of this leaflet in the "Further Information" section.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) which is a type of scan, must be avoided until you have confirmation that the capsule has passed.
