Aintree's Urology Team have featured in a new ITV documentary called ‘Ketamine: What’s Next?’ exploring the rising trend in ketamine use and highlighting the great work the team are doing for patients who are experiencing lasting side effects from taking the drug over a period of time.

The team recently established a dedicated Ketamine Clinic to help patients across Cheshire and Merseyside who have been referred by their GP with urological side effects that have been caused by Ketamine use. Chronic usage affects the lining of the bladder, and can shrink it, leading to frequency in needing to urinate, infections, bleeding, blockages and incontinence.

Urology Consultant, Dr Katie Moore, who appears in the documentary said: “We are currently treating the largest number of patients I’ve seen who are experiencing extreme pain due to ketamine use.

“We established the dedicated clinic as a lot of these patients are young and are still using ketamine. The demand for the service is rising as the side effects from taking the drug can have long-lasting side effects.”
