We are delighted to share that the University Hospital of Liverpool Group (UHL Group) has reached a significant research milestone, with our team successfully enrolling the first participant into SYNERGY-OUTCOMES, a study looking the use of medication to prevent adverse liver outcomes in patients with a serious form of fatty liver disease linked to problems with metabolism.

The UHL Group is the first site in Europe, the Middles East and Africa, to recruit into the study. This is an outstanding accomplishment and a clear demonstration of the Group’s growing leadership in delivering complex, high‑quality research.

Claire Bursten, lead research nurse at the UHL Group said: “We are incredibly proud to have reached this stage so quickly.

“The opportunity to lead the way for this study is a testament to the hard work, preparation and dedication of everyone involved.

“We look forward to continuing to deliver this study to the highest standard for the benefit of our patients.”

This milestone represents an exciting step forward for the SYNERGY-OUTCOMES study and reinforces the UHL Group’s commitment to driving research that improves care, outcomes and experience for our patients and communities.

If you are interested in taking part, please speak to your clinical team to find out whether you are eligible. To take part, you must be aged 18 or over and have a higher‑risk form of fatty liver disease linked to metabolic health, confirmed through routine scans or blood tests.
