Our Mission

The Porter Services team is committed to ensuring patients, equipment, and essential supplies reach their destination safely and efficiently, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are the backbone of hospital operations, walking an average of 12 miles per day to keep our services running smoothly and our patients moving safely through their care journey.

About Our Department

The role of a Porter is crucial in ensuring the efficient operation of our hospital. At Aintree, our team of 105 dedicated porters is responsible for transporting an average of 2,200 patients per week, as well as delivering meals, moving medical equipment, and responding swiftly during emergencies.

Porters walk an average of 27,000 steps a day—roughly 12 miles—making sure our patients get where they need to be, when they need to be there. This demanding role requires strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and empathy, patience and tolerance in challenging situations, and excellent physical fitness to meet the constant demands of a busy hospital environment.
