Some patients remain in hospital whilst waiting for non-urgent diagnostic imaging, this can sometimes mean keeping them in hospital longer than they need to be.
To help discharge those patients and get them home sooner, our Radiology Team provides a service to enable patients on our wards to have their diagnostic scan as an urgent outpatient, instead.
This service has many benefits to the patient, as it can help to get them back to their loved ones to recover at home, reduce deconditioning and prevent them being exposed to other hospital acquired infections.
In terms of the impact this has on our hospitals, this helps to plan for a patients discharge earlier, improves site flow, provides a better patient experience and reduces length of stay.
We would like to encourage all referrers to familiarise yourselves with the process for identifying and referring patients who can be supported through this pathway.
Radiology will be delivering education and awareness sessions about this process across all sites to encourage uptake.
