Our aim is to look after your veins by using the safest and most effective methods when inserting and managing intravenous (IV) lines. Our friendly specialist nurses are highly experienced and work to make sure you have reliable access for treatment, while keeping pain and discomfort to a minimum.

We care for both patients in hospital and those attending appointments. We use ultrasound equipment to help us place IV lines for people who need treatment over a long time, or for the rest of their lives.

We also offer ultrasound-guided cannulation (placing a drip) and blood tests for people where this is usually difficult.

As well as this, we support patients by:

  • Providing advice and help if there are any problems with their line
  • Helping manage any complications
  • Offering education about how to care for their device.

For more information about the different types of lines we use, you can look at the device passports.
