The Tuberculosis (TB) Community Team is made up of experienced specialist nurses who support patients in North Merseyside that have been diagnosed with active or latent TB.
We provide contact screening and incident management with support from UKHSA as well as new entrant screening.
The team is commissioned to provide the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine for children aged one or more, that are eligible, live in the North Mersey area and did not receive their BCG at birth. We provide BCG for babies under the age of one that have moved into our area, are eligible and have not had their BCG at birth.
We also provide education and awareness raising sessions to other health professionals and community groups.
For 2025/2026 we are commissioned to deliver a latent TB programme, which includes screening of new entrants to the UK that have travelled from countries where the rate of TB is 150/100000, and that are aged between 16 and 35.
