FAQ's
- What does the Moments that Matter Scheme mean for Recognition of Service Policy/ Long Service Awards?
The existing recognition of service policy has been withdrawn due to ongoing financial challenges. For several years, long service awards were only possible thanks to charitable funding. However, with reduced funding availability, financial pressures, and new guidance limiting recurring spend, a sustainable way to continue the formal policy could not be found.
After careful consideration and consultation with key stakeholders, including LUHFT Staff Side, the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, and the Director of People Effectiveness, a decision was formally agreed to withdraw the policy effective of 22nd May 2025.
The formal policy and related documents have now been removed from the intranet and replaced by the new Moments That Matter scheme, which continues to celebrate service in a more flexible and sustainable way.
- What if I qualify for long service but haven’t yet applied?
You no longer need to apply for long service recognition. All qualifying colleagues are now automatically identified through Workforce records. If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to a ‘Moments that Matter’ service recognition event, where your contribution will be formally celebrated.
- Do I need to apply for a Moments that Matter event?
No, there is no application process. Eligible colleagues will be automatically identified through Workforce records and will receive a personal invitation ahead of the event.

- What if I have already submitted an application for a Recognition of Service/ Long Service Award?
If you submitted your long service recognition application prior to 22 May, when the existing long service policy was formally withdrawn, and qualified for the award before this date, please be assured that your submission has been received and is currently being processed.
If you submitted an application prior to 22nd May but do not qualify until after this date, you will be sent an invitation to the first Moments that Matter event. We appreciate your patience and will respond to you as soon as possible with an update.
Due to the withdrawal of the Recognition of Service Policy and lack of available funding, colleagues going forward will no longer receive the previous Long Service Award vouchers. We understand and acknowledge that there may be mixed feelings and perhaps disappointment following the decision to remove the current recognition of service policy, particularly as there will be colleagues due to receive both their 25- and 40-year awards. All colleagues who are due an award this year will be invited to attend a recognition event to celebrate 25, 40 and 50 years of service.
- How do I apply for the £50 award towards my retirement buffet?
At point of retirement- the trust will fund £50 contribution towards a colleague’s retirement lunch with their team. The department is able to top this up to a maximum contribution of £150 at their discretion. The colleague has the option to redeem this either at the point of full retirement, or as part of a retire and return, however this can only be redeemed once.
