When a Liverpool father’s son was the victim of a knife attack, his life hung in the balance. Thanks to the swift actions of emergency teams from Aintree University Hospital and the North West Ambulance Service, his son survived against the odds.
Among those who played a crucial role was Consultant Trauma and Emergency Surgeon, John Taylor, who performed lifesaving surgery at Aintree’s Major Trauma Centre, the region’s single receiving site for adult major trauma patients across Cheshire, Merseyside and the Isle of Man.
Reflecting on the reunion, Mr Taylor said: “It was a pleasure to see the patient’s father again in much better circumstances.
Hearing first-hand that his son has made a full recovery after what were life-threatening injuries was fantastic, and I’m extremely grateful for his kind words about the care the team and I provided.”
The reunion, organised by Hits Radio UK, forms part of a documentary aimed at tackling and eradicating knife crime.
Mr Taylor added: “Sadly, we see the consequences of knife injuries far too often, and the outcome isn’t always positive.
“Raising awareness that even a small blade or a seemingly minor injury can have devastating consequences is vital. Hopefully, this will deter knife crime and help keep our communities safe.”
The patient’s father said: “Meeting the people who saved my son’s life has meant the world to me. The skill, dedication and compassion shown by John and the Major Trauma team at Aintree is something I will never forget. Their clear communication and constant reassurance helped us through every stage of his recovery.”
