The Cardiology Department at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is contributing to cutting edge research including several large international studies exploring new treatments and interventions across the spectrum of heart disease.
Areas of study
- Heart failure
- Aortic valve disease
- Coronary artery disease.
Current studies
Early valve replacement versus standard of care in severe aortic stenosis
This study will test whether taking sotagliflozin once a day helps people with heart failure and type 1 diabetes feel better in their daily lives.
The study will use a special questionnaire to measure how their heart condition affects their quality of life.
This study is testing a new medicine called Ziltivekimab to help people with heart failure and inflammation. Inflammation helps fight illness but can harm the heart if it lasts too long, causing heart failure.
The study is testing whether a more joined‑up, personalised approach can help frail older adults with a type of heart failure stay independent for longer. This approach includes a full health review with specialists, support for families, and rehabilitation delivered at home. Researchers will compare this with usual NHS care to see which best supports people with their everyday activities.
This early‑phase study is testing a brand‑new treatment to see if it is safe for people with very high cholesterol that hasn’t improved with current medicines. It will also check how the treatment affects cholesterol levels to help decide suitable doses for future studies.
