Caring for patients on Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) is about understanding, connection and meaningful therapeutic engagement.

This interactive study day is designed to help HCAs and ward-based staff build confidence in recognising, responding to and supporting patients experiencing distress, confusion or behaviours of concern. Based on real ward challenges, the focus is on practical skills you can use straight away in your role.

You will develop confidence in:

  • Therapeutic communication and de-escalation
  • Understanding behaviour as communication
  • Supporting patients with dementia, delirium, mental health needs and learning disabilities/autism
  • Using behaviour charts and introduction to MELO to support safer, more effective care.

We are also introducing Patient Ready AI — a new and innovative technology designed to support learning through realistic, interactive patient scenarios.

This platform offers a safe space to practise communication, decision-making and reflection, helping you build confidence in how you respond in real-life situations. It brings learning to life and allows you to explore how your interactions can positively influence patient experience, safety and outcomes.

By the end of the day, you will feel more confident, more equipped, and better supported to make every patient interaction count.

The sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • 22 July, Wednesday, Aintree (OSCE Hub, Aintree Hall)
  • 4 August, Tuesday, Royal (Conference Rm 4, 9th Floor).
