As we approach National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day on June 18, we would like to showcase the dedicated professionals who work extremely hard behind the scenes to keep our hospitals running.
James Reynolds is a Senior Estates Officer at Aintree University Hospital.
James is one of the experienced leaders in our Estates Department, who manages specialist plumbers, fitters, technicians and water safety experts, who help maintain safe environments for our patients, visitors and colleagues.
James discovered his passion for mechanical engineering and building services at an early age and secured a three-year apprenticeship at Aintree University Hospital.
After becoming fully qualified, James then pursued a bachelor’s degree in building services engineering at Liverpool John Moores University and was soon given the role of Senior Estates Officer, having impressed on an interim basis.
James said: "No two days in this role are the same. I help manage both planned maintenance and reactive breakdowns, always prioritising the needs of our patients and their safety.
"Estates work has changed significantly since I first started in 2014. Our teams are now delivering more modern, greener solutions, like fitting solar panels, to help improve efficiency and the care clinical colleagues can provide to patients.
“I am always encouraging my team to develop and openly discuss ways in which we can improve the services we offer. The support I received from colleagues in the department from when I first started till now has been incredible, so I feel it is my duty to give the team opportunities to succeed.
“Working for Estates in the NHS is extremely rewarding and I’m proud knowing my work contributes to caring for my community.”
