The Princess Royal visited the Royal Liverpool University Hospital this week to meet with teams from our hospitals as well as first responders who were on the scene following the incident at Liverpool Football Club’s victory parade. A number of casualties were brought to our hospitals and to hospitals elsewhere in the region following the incident on Monday 26 May.

The Princess Royal spoke with teams from the Royal and Aintree hospitals, as well as North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. She also met with a representative for Liverpool Football Club and Cllr Liam Robinson, Leader of Liverpool City Council.

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace following the visit said: "The Princess Royal would like to share her heartfelt condolences and support for the families and communities affected by Monday’s tragedy. Her Royal Highness also wishes to acknowledge the courage of the emergency services, some of whom she met today, and all those providing care and comfort during this difficult time."

Rob Forster, Deputy Chief Executive at UHL Group, said: “It was an honour to welcome The Princess Royal to the Royal Liverpool, to meet with frontline colleagues from our hospitals and partner services. For their courage and response to the city centre incident, both treating people at the scene and in our hospitals, to be recognised was appreciated and well deserved. The swift and co-ordinated response from all our emergency services is a testament to the professionalism of all our teams and shows that we are ready to respond effectively when such incidents do sadly happen.”

We also received a letter of thanks from Sir Jim Mackey, Chief Executive Officer of NHS England, who said the response of teams had shown the NHS at its best, noting how staff acted with professionalism, speed and humanity.
