The Thrombosis team at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital has won an Enhancing Patient Experience Award at the 2025 Thrombosis UK Awards.

The award recognises the team’s work to address gaps and opportunities for patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE), a condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein. The team was applauded for recognising both the physical and psychological impact a VTE can cause and for working to ensure all patients receive timely assessments, holistic support and educational materials to help them better understand the condition.

Feedback from judges also highlighted the positive results from a recent audit of patients who have been treated by the team. Of the patients audited, 94% rated their overall experience of the service as excellent, with the remaining 6% rating the service as good.

Sue Lacey, Lead Nurse for Clinical Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, AKU and Transfusion, said: “Winning this award means a great deal to the team. It is a powerful recognition of our collective efforts, dedication and the impact we strive to make in improving patient care and clinical outcomes.”
