The LGBTQ+ Staff Network is proud to announce that we will be at Liverpool’s Pride March this year! π
We have been working closely with the NHS LGBTQ+ network leads regionally and have decided to come together to march as one NHS for the first time! We hope this will bring opportunities to meet new people, experience queer joy, and celebrate the wonderful LGBTQ+ community that we have across Cheshire and Merseyside. If you would like to be involved in shaping our plans for the day, please join our upcoming staff network meeting at 12pm on Tuesday 15th July 2025 via Microsoft Teams (π Link: Join by clicking here!)
Please see below for more information, and don’t forget to register by following the link below!
Information: As you’re likely already aware, Sahir have announced that Liverpool’s Pride is back for 2025 with plans for a Muster (from 9:30am), Speeches (from 10:30am), and March (starting at 11:30am) to go ahead at the Pier Head! The Muster and Speeches will feature local LGBTQ+ activists and communities who will speak about the importance of visibility and realistic representation, and the power of protest and queer joy. The March will follow a new, fully wheelchair accessible route, which will begin at the Pier Head and finish at the M&S Bank Arena. Protect Scouse Dolls will lead the March, followed by Block 1, the only designated block, consisting of LGBTQ+ people living with disabilities and neurodivergent LGBTQ+ people. Block 1 will set the pace for the rest of the March, with everybody else marching freely behind. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. We will share a map and further information once available.

Pride Month 2025
Pride Month marks a time to raise awareness and increase visibility of the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people. We hope to provide a platform where LGBTQ+ people are seen and heard, so that we can celebrate their lives and achievements whilst highlighting the discrimination the community continues to face. By providing realistic representation of the LGBTQ+ community, we can better educate ourselves which will allow us to make meaningful change and create a safer, more inclusive environment for all.
Pride Events
UHLG and our LGBTQ+ networks remain committed to honouring Pride’s spirit of celebration and inclusivity. It’s more important than ever, and we hope you’ll join us in coming together to uplift and support our LGBTQ+ staff, patients, and local community. LGBT Foundation - Intro to Services Talk
Information: As healthcare professionals, understanding the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals is essential to delivering inclusive and person-centred care. As part of our celebrations for Pride Month, we’re delighted to host LGBT Foundation again to deliver another talk, this time for an introductory session on their services and how they can support both your patients and your practice. In this session, LGBT Foundation will introduce their three free, high-quality services now available to all residents of the Liverpool City Region, including their Recovery Support Service, Domestic Abuse Support Service, and their Sexual Health Service. You’ll hear how these services provide tailored, affirming support and how they can enhance both your clinical practice and patient outcomes. You'll find out where to signpost people who may be in need of these vital services. Whether you're in primary care, mental health, community services, or another part of the NHS, this is a valuable opportunity to build more inclusive pathways of care for LGBTQ+ people.

Walk with Pride
Information: On Sunday 8th June 2025, LGBTQ+ members of staff and allies brought joy and colour to Sefton Park with UHLG’s Walk with Pride event. The rain held off just long enough for a peaceful and uplifting walk through nature, with an amazing turnout of NHS staff, friends, families, and a few dogs too! The event, in collaboration with Merseyside Queer Walks, was an amazing kick off to pride month. It was wonderful to see so many people walking together in support of the LGBTQ+ community at a time when visibility and allyship are more important than ever. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the day! And for those that missed it - we’re already planning our next event, a relaxed picnic in the park on what would have been the date of LCR Pride, so keep an eye out for more details soon! See below for pictures of the day.

From Pride to Practice - LGBTQ+ History and Inclusive Healthcare Webinar by Deià Penn
Information: UHLG is delighted to welcome back Deià Penn, LGBTQ+ history academic and ambassador for an LGBTQ+ education charity. Following the success of her brilliantly engaging talk during LGBTQ+ History Month back in February, Deià will be returning in June to deliver an online webinar exploring queer history. This session will focus on the importance of Pride, the complex history of LGBTQ+ medicine, and how we can learn from the past to inform more inclusive practice today. You'll learn about the history of the relationship between the NHS and the queer community and how that influences expectations of care today, as well as why LGBTQ+ inclusion is especially important in health and social care. The feedback from her previous session was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re honoured to offer staff another opportunity to learn about queer history from a passionate and knowledgeable speaker.

Butterfly Boutique
Information: Our friends over at Axess are putting on regular clothes swap events for trans and non-binary people, as part of their Butterfly Boutique. The Butterfly Boutique will be a safe space for trans and non-binary folk to exchange gender affirming clothing and meet with members of the community. It would be wonderful if people could bring in clothing to donate to this. Especially if you have anything gender affirming (e.g. binders, dresses, shirts etc.). If you’re an ally to the trans community, this is a wonderful way to help out, and give your unwanted clothing to people who may need it. For trans and non-binary people, wearing gender affirming clothes is a way of expressing their gender and is often a life changing step in social transition. What is just a shirt or dress you don’t wear can be a source of joy and euphoria for a trans person. Please share widely with your teams, you never know who might benefit from this. If you have any trans friends or family, please share with them so they can come to this wonderful event and hopefully feel some of that joy the community needs now more than ever. You can drop any items off at the address listed below. See posters below for more details.

In 1978 gay rights activist Gilbert Baker created the first Pride flag with the goal of it being a symbol for everyone. Since then, many new flags have been created to represent all communities within the LGBTQ+ community.
The Pride Flag
The colour red represents life, orange represents healing, yellow represents sunlight, green represents nature, blue represents peace/harmony and violet represents spirit.
Progress Pride Flag
The Progress Pride Flag is the updated pride flag, which acknowledges queer people of colour with the black and brown strips. In addition, the pink, white, and blue are a representation of the transgender flag.
Intersex Inclusive Pride Flag
The Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag adds the intersex community to the Progress Pride Flag. With this update coming in 2021, this serves as the most up-to-date LGBTQ+ flag.
Transgender Pride Flag
The three colours of the Transgender Pride Flag represent women and girls (pink) men and boys (blue) and white for those are intersex, transitioning or describe themselves as having an unidentified gender.
Bisexual Pride Flag
The pink represents those who are attracted to the same gender identity, the purple for attraction to two genders and blue represents those are attracted to a different gender.
Lesbian Pride Flag
The colours represent gender nonconformity (dark orange), independence (orange), community (light orange), unique connections to womanhood (white), tranquillity and peace (pink), dusty pink (love and sex), and dark rose (femininity).
Pansexual Pride Flag
The Colours represent attraction to those who identify as female (pink), the attraction to those who identify as male (blue), and attraction to those who identify as genderqueer, nonbinary, agender, androgynous, or anyone who doesn’t identify on the male-female binary (yellow).
Intersex Pride Flag
The flag is contains a golden yellow field, with a purple circle emblem, to avoid gender stereotypes.
Asexual Pride Flag
The black represents asexuality, the grey for grey-asexuality and demisexuality, the white for non-asexual partners, and the purple for community.
Nonbinary Pride Flag
The colours represent people completely outside of the gender binary (yellow), people with multiple genders (white), people whose identity incorporates aspects of male and female (purple), and those who do not identify with any specific gender (black).
Agender Pride Flag
The colours represent absence of gender (black and white), semi-genderlessness (grey), and nonbinary genders (green).
Gender-Fluid Pride Flag
The colours represent feminine (pink), absence of gender (white), the combination of masculine and feminine (purple), genders who do not share feminine or masculine traits (black), and masculine (blue).
Gender Queer Pride Flag
The use of lavender is meant as a combination of pink and blue, symbolizing a mixture of male and female. On the other hand, the dark green is meant to stand for people who identify beyond the gender binary and stand as the opposite of lavender. The white signifies the absence of gender.
