The Special Care Dentistry service provides specialist dental care on a referral basis to specific patients.
This includes those patients who have a physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical, or emotional/social impairment or disability, or a combination of these factors, which affect their ability to accept dental treatment within their dental practice.
We work collaboratively with specialist colleagues across our hospitals, including Haematology (blood), Oncology (cancer) and Cardiology (heart) to support patients with various conditions.
We also work closely with health and social care colleagues within the community and throughout the Merseyside region to provide care.
We provide Special Care Dentistry to patients throughout Cheshire and Merseyside and accept tertiary referrals from other centres in the Northwest and the Isle of Man.
Whilst waiting for a consultation you should continue to attend your own dentist or general dental practitioner for preventative care and advice and routine/emergency dental treatment.
Please be aware you may be eligible for consultation, but this does not guarantee that you will be accepted for treatment.
If you are not accepted for treatment a treatment plan will be shared with you and your own dentist.
