There are many methods of contraception available, which do not require surgery and these can be discussed with your GP or at a Well Woman Clinic.  Sterilisation is a permanent method of contraception and you and your partner should be absolutely certain you do not want any more children before going ahead.

What will happen

If you have decided that you wish to have female sterilisation, you will be seen by the specialist nurse in the sterilisation clinic and will be given further advice and when you are ready you will be consented for a surgical sterilisation procedure.  This is a minor surgical procedure and you will require a pre-operative assessment and will be asked to agree a suitable date for your surgery with our admissions team. The procedure is carried out through the laparoscope, in which the fallopian tubes (the tubes that carry the sperm to the egg) are blocked off surgically using clips.

Clinic times

The nurse-led sterilisation clinics are held on Monday's, 9am-12.30pm and on Wednesday's, 9am-10.30am.
