Liverpool Women’s University Hospital is a specialist Trust that is able to focus on services specifically for women. We are therefore able to offer a number of specialist services that are not routinely available from other Trusts.

Our consultants and nursing staff make the provision of these services possible. You can be referred into any of the specialist services either by another Hospital Consultant or by your GP.

The services provided in the specialist clinics attract patients from across the UK and even from abroad. We are very proud to be able to offer these services locally to the women of Merseyside and Cheshire.

Vulval Clinic

The Vulval Clinic offers a service to women with vulval conditions such as skin complaints of the vulva like lichen sclerosus and vulval pain known as vulvodynia.

What will happen

The clinic assesses vulval conditions in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Investigations such as swabs and biopsies can be taken during your visit and referral to other specialities can be arranged if required.

The clinic is consultant-led and staffed by both male and female doctors, clinicians and nurses.

In addition, each month a clinic is attended by a consultant dermatologist and problems that have proved difficult to manage can be discussed prior to the clinic in a multi-disciplinary team meeting.

Clinic times

Clinics are held at Liverpool Women’s University Hospital, Crown Street site in Gynaecology Outpatients, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Clinic

At Liverpool Women’s University Hospital, we provide care and support for women who are experiencing problems as a result of female genital mutilation (FGM).

This specialist service is staffed exclusively by a female team who understand the sensitivity and complexity of issues relating to FGM, allowing women to discuss their health needs in a culturally sensitive and non-judgmental environment.

We perform a reversal procedure under both local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic depending on the woman’s preference.

If you have been affected by FGM and would like to be seen in this specialist service, you can get a referral from your GP, or you can self-refer by completing the form below.
