University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHL Group) has highlighted its growing strength in research and innovation at HLTH Europe.
UHL Group played a leading role in the Northern Health Science Alliance’s (NHSA) ‘Northern Lights, Brighter Health’ session in Amsterdam, helping position Liverpool as a global hub for health and life sciences.
Professor Terry Jones, Director of Research and Innovation, and James Thomson, Group Chief Commercial Officer, represented UHL Group in a discussion exploring how the NHS is responding to the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan.
With around 19,000 staff across six hospital sites, UHL Group is one of the UK’s largest NHS providers, delivering significant research and commercial activity. Its scale is enabling stronger collaboration with partners across the globe to improve patient care.
Professor Terry Jones said: “Our scale allows us to align research and innovation across the whole system, bringing together the NHS, academia and industry to solve problems and improve quality and safety at pace. Embedding innovation throughout the system is key to delivering end‑to‑end improvements in care.”
James Thomson also highlighted how the Group’s structure is unlocking new opportunities for partnership working and growth.
He said: “The formation of UHL Group gives us the scale and specialism to expand commercial activity and build more impactful partnerships. By working collaboratively across the North, we can create opportunities that deliver real benefits for our communities.”
The session, led by the NHSA, also featured a keynote from Professor Louise Kenny, Chair of the NHSA and Chief Executive of Liverpool Health Partners, who highlighted the North’s strengths in healthcare innovation.
