Information alert:

Visit the Mersey Surgery School website which provides general information on having surgery, from preparation to post-op recovery.

Medical Photography, also known as clinical photography, is the term used to allow a range of medical conditions and diseases to be documented and imaged by trained photographers across our hospitals.

Our photographers cover a wide range of specialities and areas, including outpatient clinics, emergency departments, wards and theatres.

Photography is requested by the clinical teams to help diagnose a patient’s injury or illness. These are also useful in recording and documenting a condition or injury during the various stages of treatment.

Photographs can be taken in either a clinical setting (such as a ward, clinic or theatre) or in our studio setting based within Outpatients.

Our Photographers follow a strict code of ethics, respecting both the privacy and dignity of each patient and are undertaken by photography qualified staff.

More information

Patients based on our wards are referred into the service by the clinical teams caring for them. A member of the Medical Photography team will then attend the ward.

Outpatients at Aintree University Hospital will have a studio appointment on the day of clinic where possible. Alternatively, a date is booked and sent for them to attend on another date based on clinical need.

Outpatients at Broadgreen Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital that aren’t photographed during clinic, are asked to contact the Medical Photography team on 0151 706 2886 and arrange an appointment themselves.
