Each hospital has a legal duty to maintain safe emergency care, and we recognise the importance of working in partnership with the unions in planning for essential services during industrial action
Employees do not have to inform their manager of their intention to participate in industrial action, however colleagues intending to participate in industrial action are encouraged to inform their line manager so that appropriate planning can take place, with the interests of patients in mind.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that resident doctors in England will take industrial action for five days from 7am on Friday 25 July until 7am on Wednesday 30 July 2025.
This is a national dispute and not a dispute with UHL Group.
The BMA has advised that there will be a picket line at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital site on Friday 25 July 2025 from 9am - 11am on West Derby Street.
We respect that the industrial action is lawful action and we will ensure support is in place for all staff, regardless of whether they are in a Trade Union or not and whether they participate in industrial action or not.
Ahead of this action, consultants should ensure they have appropriate access to CareFlow (formerly known as WellSky), with any access or user issues escalated to your Divisional Medical Director in the first instance.
On strike days, non-medical staff may be required to temporarily undertake work outside of their normal department in order to support the safe delivery of care. In particular, this includes areas where your normal activity has been stood-down and staff can be redeployed. Your support in this is appreciated.
This will inevitably be a challenging time, but we want to reassure colleagues that every necessary preparation has been made to ensure we can continue to provide the best care possible to our patients.
