Extensive works will be undertaken on Queens Drive and Thomas Drive, beginning on Wednesday 23 July. They are expected to be completed by Wednesday 5 November.
We have been informed by DT Hughes, sub-contracting for Scottish Power, that the essential electrical cabling works will involve lane closures and traffic controls outside the Broadgreen Hospital site.
During this period, it is anticipated there will be travel disruption in the surrounding area of the Broadgreen Hospital site, with delays and queuing traffic.
Together with Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Mersey Care, we have been working closely with the contractors to ensure that disruption is minimised as far as possible, and to ensure that appropriate arrangements are put in place for emergency access, and for patients, colleagues and visitors.
Key phases of work
Road crossing at Queens Drive
- Start date: 23 July 2025
- Duration: Up to 5 days
- Traffic impact: Reduction to one lane in each direction over the Rocket Flyover, and the M62 slip road to turn right onto Queens Drive will also be narrowed to a single lane.
Central reservation and lane works
- Estimated start: w/c 28 July 2025
- Duration: Approximately 7 days
- Traffic impact: Continued single-lane running in both directions. Access to the hospital site and the LHCH multi-storey car park from Thomas Drive will remain unaffected.
Works along Thomas Drive
- Provisional start date: 13 August 2025
- Duration: Expected until 30 September 2025
- Traffic impact: One lane to remain open in each direction throughout. Parking restrictions will apply where necessary to facilitate safety zones, but no full road closure is expected.
Following the completion of Phase 3, the scheme will continue through residential areas towards Rocky Lane. The entire project is scheduled to conclude by 5 November 2025.
Considerations:
- Where possible, ensure patients allow extra journey time when attending appointments on site.
- Please ensure visiting relatives are aware of the travel disruption in advance.
- All staff should plan travel in advance and allow extra time for journeys to and from the hospital site.
- Staff may wish to consider alternative travel to the hospital site – walk, cycle, scooter etc.
- To date, no public transport timetable changes or planned route changes have been planned.
- No planned power outages are expected at any stage during these works.
We will keep you updated on any changes to these phased roadworks.
