Copilot Chat launches
We’ve recently launched Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, which is our approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) chat tool.
If colleagues feel the need to use AI to support their role or carry out day-to-day tasks, we are asking staff to use Copilot rather than other AI alternatives due to its security measures.
What is Copilot Chat?
Copilot Chat is an AI tool that uses data from the internet to answer questions or develop content.
Colleagues can use Copilot Chat as a support function to enhance productivity, improve their writing or streamline tasks. You can also upload files to get responses from Copilot based on information from your own documents, presentations and files.
How could I use Copilot Chat?
Using Copilot Chat is simple, you just type your query, prompt or request, and Copilot Chat will provide the information or support you need.
Examples of appropriately using Copilot Chat could be:
- Summarising long documents (such as policies or guidance) into bullet points or key information, eg “Give me a concise summary of the attached document”
- Generating notes or actions/tasks from transcripts of Teams meetings
- Creating supporting information to accompany a presentation, eg “Write an opening paragraph about the importance of timely patient discharge. The target audience is medics”
- Help with drafting and formatting non-sensitive reports, letters, and other documentation
- Rewording content into simplified language
- Finding information online rather than a web search.
This video explains how you can write a good prompt for Copilot.
What should I not use Copilot Chat for?
Colleagues cannot enter any patient-identifiable, confidential or sensitive information or data into Copilot Chat.
It cannot also be used for:
- Clinical decision-making or interpreting clinical information
- Drafting legal, safeguarding, or incident reports.
Copilot Chat is not designed as a replacement of skills, expertise of staff or to take over all aspects of producing documents, content or finding out information. It should only be used to support colleagues with efficiency or answering appropriate questions. Colleagues should continue to speak directly to departments or staff who are specialists of their subject.
We ask that any colleague using Copilot should carefully read over any final content to ensure accuracy before it is used or shared.
Where can I find Copilot Chat?
If you’re signed into your work account on your browser, Copilot Chat is available online, or accessible via an icon your Microsoft Teams app:
