As a Group, we fully respect the rights of union members to take industrial action that has been balloted for and recommended by their trade union.
Each hospital has a legal duty to maintain safe emergency care, and we recognise the importance of working in partnership with the unions in planning for essential services during industrial action
Employees do not have to inform their manager of their intention to participate in industrial action, however colleagues intending to participate in industrial action are encouraged to inform their line manager so that appropriate planning can take place, with the interests of patients in mind.
We recognise that our colleagues want to deliver the best care possible and the decision to vote for industrial action will have been personally and professionally challenging for members. If you need any confidential and personal support, please contact Occupational Health.
Our values include being caring and fair and we will all respect the actions our colleagues take, whether they are taking part in industrial action or not.
BMA industrial action - June 2026
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that resident doctors in England (previously known as junior doctors) will take strike action from 7am on Monday 15 June until 6.59am on Friday 19 June 2026.
This is a national dispute and not a dispute with UHL Group.
We expect there to be a picket line on Monday 15 June 2026, from 8.30am to 11am outside the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, West Derby Street entrance.
We respect that the industrial action is lawful action and we will ensure support is in place for all staff, regardless of whether they are in a Trade Union or not and whether they participate in industrial action or not.
- LUHFT sites: Ahead of this action, consultants should ensure they have appropriate access to CareFlow (formerly known as WellSky), with any access or user issues escalated to your Divisional Medical Director in the first instance.
- LWH: All staff should check their Digicare logins to ensure they have access and inform IT if this is not the case.
- LHCH: Ahead of this action, consultants should ensure they have appropriate access to EPR, with any access or user issues escalated to your Divisional Medical Director in the first instance.
We will be using the rate cards that have been used during previous rounds of industrial action to remunerate colleagues who cover shifts over and above their normal job plans and contractual hours – these rate cards cover consultants, non-consultant grade medics and other AfC staff.
It should be noted that this is distinct from the Acting Down Policy, which was developed to facilitate cover in unforeseen, short-term situations.
On strike days, non-medical staff may be required to temporarily undertake work outside of their normal department in order to support the safe delivery of care. In particular, this includes areas where your normal activity has been stood-down and staff can be redeployed. Your support in this is appreciated.
This will inevitably be a challenging time, but we want to reassure colleagues that every necessary preparation has been made to ensure we can continue to provide the best care possible to our patients.
Please remember that the Staff Support Offer is available to all colleagues, whether you are taking part in industrial action or not.
