Kathryn Thomson, former Chief Executive of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, has been awarded the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to health in the New Year’s Honours List.
Kathryn Thomson started her career in the health service in 1984, predominantly in Merseyside and the North West, spending 15 years as Chief Executive at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, before retiring in 2023 after almost 40 years NHS service.
Speaking about receiving the honour, Kathryn said: “It was a privilege to work in the NHS for nearly four decades. I spent the last 15 years of my career as Chief Executive of Liverpool Women’s and it is a place that will always be close to my heart. To be recognised with this MBE is an incredible personal honour, but I would also like to dedicate it to my family and the colleagues I worked with over the years, many of whom are still doing amazing work in the NHS to this day for the benefit of patients. I am incredibly proud to represent the NHS and all the organisations I have worked for, in this year’s honours.”
David Flory, Chair of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, said: “I would like to congratulate Kathryn on being awarded an MBE, in honour of the many years she dedicated to the NHS. To be recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours is a fitting tribute to Kathryn’s service to the NHS and her contribution to health care in the region.”
Jenny Hannon, Executive Managing Director of Liverpool Women’s Hospital, added: “On behalf of everyone at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, I would like to congratulate Kathryn on this well-deserved honour, which recognises the significant impact she has had on Liverpool Women’s Hospital but also the wider NHS during her career.”
Kathryn joined Liverpool Women’s in 2008, from University South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. She also worked at other local NHS Trusts during her career, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Heart & Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
